STEP 5 - Email List

One of the most overlooked methods of selling beats online is email marketing, and building an email list of artists and producers who you can regularly send emails to, keeping them up to date with your music and anything else going on in your life.

Email vs Social Media

It is so important to ensure that you have an email list where you can keep in contact with all of your customers. What if Instagram disappears tomorrow? YouTube? Soundcloud? Who will save you then. I bet your email list will!

In contrast to social media platforms, email offers a much more interpersonal relationship with customers, as it allows YOU to decide when you show up in someones inbox, compared so YouTube and Instagram which work through algorithms.

How to build an email list

If you followed the steps in the earlier blog post by creating a website through BeatStars, there is a cool and extremely useful little feature, which I personally think is the most effective way to build an email list.

One marketing tool which many producers use, is giving artists the option to download a beat for free (for non profit use) in return for their email. BeatStars gives you this option when uploading a track.

Once they provide you with their email, they can then be added to your email list where you can regularly contact them wherever and whenever you want!

Ways to send email

There are 2 ways to send email. One-off campaigns and automated emails.

One Off Campaign
  • Sending a single email to all of your contacts
  • e.g. Informing them of a new beat upload
Automated Emails
  • Pre written emails that are scheduled to send relative to a specific time schedule e.g. every week)
  • Often used for sending out discounts
Discounts

You may be wondering, once I have built my email list, what can I do to convert my contacts to customers?

One of the best ways to do this is through discount codes, which once again can be done through BeatStars. An example may be a mass email sent out to all of your contacts saying "Hey guys, doing a sale this weekend, use code "TWENTY" for 20% off all beats!"

When customers first sign up to my email list I also like to give them a 25% discount for their first purchase using "NEWCUSTOMER"

Thanks,

Marc

STEP 3 - Social Media Marketing

Platforms such as Youtube, Soundcloud and Instagram are the best places to market your products with regards to selling beats online, as most artists resort to these platforms when searching for beats to use for their upcoming projects. And guess what? They are completely FREE to use! Artists have been so accustomed to using these types of platforms as these are what they feel most comfortable using, as they already spend a decent portion of their day on these platforms anyway. With this in mind, it is crucial that you use these platforms as a marketing tool to help drive traffic to your website, especially if you are trying to do this organically. YouTube When it comes to selling beats online, YouTube is without doubt the number 1 platform with regards to marketing your music and driving traffic to your beat store. Traffic which your receive on your youtube channel can be funnelled back to your website where it can then be converted to sales. The more traffic you are getting on YouTub...

STEP 4 - Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Before we get into applying SEO to your social platforms, it is important to understand what Search Engine Optimisation is. The aim of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is to drive as much traffic as possible to your website by targeting keywords which you are likely to rank for in search results.  Since YouTube will most likely be the main traffic driver for your website and will generate you the most sales, we will use it as an example as to how SEO can be applied to "type beats" to help direct more traffic to your site.  As stated in the previous blog post, the YouTube type beat scene has become extremely saturated and has made it almost impossible for newer producers to rank in search results for the more popular keywords like "Drake Type Beat" or "Post Malone Type Beat". Due to this it is important that you find a niche keyword with less competition which will allow you to rank in search results and generate more views and in turn more traffic towards ...
