Platforms such as Youtube, Soundcloud and Instagram are the best places to market your products with regards to selling beats online, as most artists resort to these platforms when searching for beats to use for their upcoming projects. And guess what? They are completely FREE to use!
Artists have been so accustomed to using these types of platforms as these are what they feel most comfortable using, as they already spend a decent portion of their day on these platforms anyway. With this in mind, it is crucial that you use these platforms as a marketing tool to help drive traffic to your website, especially if you are trying to do this organically.
When it comes to selling beats online, YouTube is without doubt the number 1 platform with regards to marketing your music and driving traffic to your beat store. Traffic which your receive on your youtube channel can be funnelled back to your website where it can then be converted to sales. The more traffic you are getting on YouTube, the more sales your will see.

Type Beats
Now that you have created your YouTube channel you may ask, how am I going to market my music on my YouTube Channel?
With regards to YouTube, it is renowned in the producer scene that type beats are the most effective tool for marketing your music and being discovered artists, especially when you are first building your brand.
Now what exactly are type beats?
Type Beats are instrumentals which are made to emulate the style/atmosphere of the worlds most famous artists and producers. This is not done to copy or steal their style, but are merely used as a marketing tool to make it easier for artists to find the type of beat they are looking for.
As you can see below, if you type "Drake Type Beat" into YouTube, the search results will offer you a series of instrumentals which fit the style of Drake. Likewise, if an artist would like to make a "Travis Scott Style" song, they can simply type in "Travis Scott Type Beat" on YouTube and will be shown various different beats similar to the dark, euphoric types of instrumentals which Travis Scott makes hit records to.
However, it should be noted that this is not as easy as it may look. You cannot simply post a "Drake Type Beat" onto YouTube and expect to rank first in search results and rake in millions of views on your channel. The Type Beat market has become extremely saturated, with hundreds of beats being posted by producers at every minute of the day.
This is where using Search engine Optimisation (SEO) and targeting the right keywords comes into play, which will be spoken about in the next blog post so stay tuned!
Instagram
Although it may not have the same organic reach as YouTube, Instagram is by far the most effective tool for manually reaching out and building solid relationships with artists. 99% of artists often have a public Instagram account where they have links to their music and other projects which they may be working on.
One of my favourite ways to find artists on Instagram is through hashtags, as the majority of artists use these to expand their reach and help get their music known.
It is important to note that you should mainly reach out to artists who's style of music complements the type of beats which you make/ are the same genre. Some examples of hashtags which you could use can be seen below.
RNB Artists
- #rnbartist
- #rnbartists
- #rnbsinger
- #rnbsingers
- #upcomingrnbartist
Rap/Hip Hop Artists
- #rapper
- #upcomingrapper
- #unsignedrapper
- #rapperneedbeats
More General Hashtags
- #needbeats
- #lookingforbeats
- #artist
- #upcomingartist
Another, under-looked method of reaching out to artists on instagram is by looking through the followers of bigger producers with a similar style to you. For example, if you make similar beats to producers such as CashMoneyAP (produced for Drake, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande etc.) you can simply click on their follower count and start searching for artists who follow them who may potentially be interested in purchasing the types of beats you offer.
This can be very time consuming, and as stated earlier is less organic than what YouTube offers, however is without doubt the most direct and efficient way of reaching out and building a relationship with artists who can potentially turn into customers.
The next blog post will be based around Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and will show you ways in which you can find your own niche market on YouTube in order to get more views and draw more traffic to your website!
Thank You,
Marc
